Aerospray® Gram Series 2

Market Segment: ,

Automated Gram staining system that provides rapid, standardized results for all types of specimens.

“Delivering textbook quality staining with trouble-free operation”

The new Series 2 stainers fulfills Today’s needs for Laboratories, with an easy and intuitive 21st century interface.

Microscope slides smeared with samples containing microorganisms are stained to differentiate between Gram positive and negative microorganisms.

Only fresh reagents are applied to the slides so there is no chance of slide-to-slide cross-contamination. The reagent consumption is very low and throughput is high using either a 12- or 30- slide carousel. The slides are dry and ready for the microscope in minutes, giving superior results.
And with the addition of the optional Cytopro® Cytocentrifuge Rotor, the Gram is also able to deposit cells onto microscope slides.

Aerospray® Gram Series 2

Aerospray® Gram Series 2

The Aerospray® Gram automated slide stainer is a dual-purpose microprocessor-controlled slide staining and cell preparation system.

The Aerospray Process for Gram Staining

This method of staining is rapid, precise, and results in exceptionally clean fields. After just a five minute stain cycle, the slides emerge from the carousel dry and ready for the microscope.Quality Staining

The Aerospray® Gram applies only fresh reagents precisely metered to the slides so there is no chance of slide-to-slide cross-contamination of specimens.

Atomizing spray nozzles apply reagents onto microscope slides prepared with microbiological specimens. Slides are mounted in a rotating 12- or 30-slide carousel:

  • Specimens can be heat fixed and stained directly, or the automatic alcohol fixation cycle can be used to provide a convenient and reproducible specimen fixation. Once slides are fixed, they are sprayed with crystal violet. The excess stain is then removed by centrifugation and washed away with deionized water.
  • Iodine reagent is then sprayed onto the slide. Excess iodine is spun off and rinsed from the slide with deionized water.
  • Decolorizer is then applied to remove the crystal violet-iodine complex until only the gram-negative organisms are decolorized. Safranin or fuchsin (added to the decolorizer) simultaneously stains the gram-negative cells red.

Decolorization is the critical step in proper gram differentiation and unless carefully controlled can lead to errors.

The Aerospray® Gram stainer provides a choice of decolorizing cycles ranging from 1 to 9, allowing the operator to compensate for thick specimens, changes in reagents, and possible instrument variations.

  • A high-speed spin cycle rapidly dries the stained slides in the Aerospray stainer.

Dual-purpose Instrument

Rotor CarouselWith the optional Cytopro®rotor, the Aerospray Stainer becomes a superb cytocentrifuge with eight-slide capacity and programmability, at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a stand-alone cytocentrifuge.

Everything under control

Would you like to secure your settings with an administrator password? Do you want to be reminded to perform preventative maintenance or stain a QC slide? Just program the stainer as you like and the system will remind you. And don’t worry about reagents and waste – the stainer alerts you to expired shelf life, or critical reagent or waste levels.

More traceability

Scan SlideNeed to reinforce your QC management and ensure compliance with new lab requirements? The Gram series 2 memory stores critical information including: reagent data, specimen ID, user ID, and cycle operation history–all exportable via a USB port. The new barcode scanner streamlines data entry, while manual keyboard entry is still an option.

Economical

The Aerospray® Gram Stainer is exceptionally sparing when it comes to reagent consumption. Programmability significantly reduces the volume of reagents required for staining partial loads and thereby significantly lowers reagent cost.

Rapid performance

With a cycle time as short as 5minutes, the Aerospray Gram Stainer can process more than 144 slides per hour (up to 300 with the optional 30-slide carousel). No more waiting for slides to dry–they’re ready to view when the staining cycle ends.

Easy to use

screen-stain_programs[1]Simply select the user-defined program and start the stain cycle. The stainer takes over from there, precisely controlling all phases of the stain cycle with virtually perfect reproducibility. Automated nozzle clean and purge after each stain cycle ensures performance without user intervention.
