Hospital Artificial Intelligence

Hospital Artificial IntelligenceArtificial intelligence (AI) is being utilized in many different walks of life these days to improve people’s lives. From vehicles that are able to drive themselves to smartphones that react to the commands people give them and provide them with the information they need, AI has come a long way in a relatively short amount of time and is breaking the boundaries of what we all thought was previously possible.

It sounds like AI could help make strides and advances in the global health care community in the coming years, especially as it pertains to providing care for those in hospitals.

A recent study conducted by WinterGreen Research even showed that global market shares of hospital artificial intelligence are expected to soar from $19 billion in 2016 all the way up to $50 billion in 2023, proving just how big hospital AI is expected to become. According to HealthITAnalytics, there are all sorts of exciting ways that hospitals are going to implement AI in order to make great improvements to the care and treatment they are able to provide. The AI that comes along with many of the computers that are used in hospitals today has already helped significantly. These computers can store massive amounts of data about patients, produce predictive analytics during specific types of treatment, and offer clinical decision support. Doctors are no longer forced to rely on just their own knowledge and experience. They can use AI to deal with the data associated with a patient and come up with a plan of action, based, in part, on information provided by the AI. This should allow them to achieve a much higher success rate. This is not the only way AI is being incorporated into hospitals, either. While cognitive computing options like IBM Watson Health are certainly making an impact by taking a lot of the guesswork out of the equation for doctors when they are providing health care, there also may be devices similar to Amazon’s Echo that make their way into hospital rooms in the not-so-distant future. These forms of AI could, in theory, replace physician pagers and nurse call systems and provide patients with the immediate help they need. They could also allow for remote patient monitoring once people check out of the hospital and help tie together all of the various elements of treatment when a person gets home. The opportunities to use AI in the health care space are endless, and it seems as though they will help improve the care people receive by leaps and bounds.
