VZV ELITe MGB® Kit

Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV) is a member of the Herpesviridae family and is responsible for varicella (chickenpox), a common childhood exanthematous disease, and herpes zoster (shingles), which results from the reactivation of the virus persisting latently in the dorsal sensory ganglia.

From a clinical perspective, VZV is of particular concern in vulnerable populations, including immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, and neonates, in whom infection may be more severe. In immunocompromised patients such as transplant recipients, oncology patients, or individuals receiving immunosuppressive therapies, VZV reactivation can present with atypical, disseminated, or severe manifestations, potentially involving visceral organs and the central nervous system, with risk of long-term damage.

In this setting, the ability to monitor viral load over time can be clinically relevant to assess disease progression and response to antiviral therapy in high-risk patients. VZV ELITe MGB® Kit is a real-time PCR assay, designed for the detection and quantification of VZV DNA extracted from clinical specimens.

The assay is validated for use with ELITe InGenius® and ELITe BeGenius® instruments for whole blood, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid.

The assay is also validated with the ELITe GALAXY automated extraction and PCR set-up system and 7500 Fast Dx Real-Time PCR Instrument, using whole blood.
