Hematology Industry Expected to Grow to $2.6B by 2020

The global hematology analyzers market is expected to grow to more than $2.6 billion by 2020, according to a recent study by technology advisory and research firm Technavio. The Technavio market report includes a detailed exploration of market trends and revenue for the industry and explores forecasts for different regions and market segments. According to a press release, several hematology analyzer product types are explored in the report, including large capital equipment hematology analyzers, POC hematology analyzers and bench-top hematology analyzers. Approximately one-half of the hematology analyzers market is anticipated to be in large capital equipment hematology analyzers. These analyzers are able to improve turnaround time in laboratories that process large volumes of samples. Large capital equipment analyzers are automated integrated systems that are controlled by an information management system, with the market for these analyzers expected to grow to $1.3 billion by 2020. The second-largest segment of the hematology analyzer market is for bench-top analyzers. The market for bench-top devices is expected to grow to more than $1 billion by 2020. Bench-top analyzers are typically used in smaller laboratories or physician office labs. Growth in this market is expected to remain steady. The smallest segment of the analyzer market is POC hematology analyzers. POC analysis is done close to the patient care site with a goal of providing faster turnaround times than if samples were sent to a lab. Examples of common POC hematology tests include white blood count, platelet function, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. This market segment is expected to grow to more than $349 million by the year 2020. While this is the smallest segment of the analyzer market, it also is expected to grow at a faster rate than the other segments.
